Both series come together again three weeks after the Superbowl in Joliet to race at the new zMax Dragway in Charlotte, NC. 2,640 feet of concrete await on this four lane drag strip that will be ran in that format for the first time in competition. Additionally, the Hot Rod Drags will feature some of the fastest late model muscle cars in a index and heads-up format.

This is one uniquely built Pro Street Corvette. The Batman-esque flare is subtile but aggressive. The Procharged powered, Proline built 588 is driven by Rick Fleck. This is a first year car that has only seen eighth mile runs, being a best of a 4.15 @ 174 mph. The team had the Corvette at Maple Grove, but went out first round. Rick and the team would be happy with 6.30s this weekend, which will be competitive in this heat

Alan Von Ahnen's Roush powered Fox Body Mustang is leading the Mean Street crowd with a 10.04 @ 132.36 mph, slightly edging out Don Baskin's Nova with a 10.06 @ 130.92 mph. This qualifying run was a recap of the last two Mean Street finals, with Baskin taking the win both times. Maybe this is Alan's weekend

John Macaluso is the only Street Radial car that has managed to run an 8 second pass so far, going for his 11th straight number one qualifying spot with a 8.859 @ 153.33 mph. Second spot goes to Scott Carter with a 9.156 @ 149.98 mph.

You know it is going to be a dreadful day with it's 85 at 9 am. Today the final round of qualifying in the morning and then eliminations round one starts at 1 pm. Today is going to be another hot one with temperatures nearing 95 degrees.

Nostalgia Pro Street champion Jim Widener was one of the many we found this morning adjusting their suspension. The track was extremely tricky yesterday with traction hit and miss in some spots of the track.

This might be one of the last shots you see of Mike Yedgarian's Super Street Firebird. After a clean pass through the stripes, Mike's car hooked to the right before he had a chance to pop the shoots. The car contacted the right retaining wall hard, then spun around, damaging the rear. Unfortunately the car might be totaled, but regardless, Mike says he will be out for the remainder of the season.

The qualifying order is all swapped around in Mean Street, with the narrowest margin we have seen. Don Baskin makes his jump to the number one spot with a 10.044 @ 132.01 mph. Next up is Gary Duncan with a 10.045 @ 131.59 mph, and Alan Von Ahnen with a 10.047 @ 132.36 mph - a total separation of .003 from first to third.

John Macaluso ends up besting Brad Schehr's qualifying efforts for his eleventh straight number one qualifying position with a 8.841 @ 153.84 mph. The rest of the field stays mostly the same.

PRO STREET ELIMINATION NOTES POSTED, CHECK THE LINK FOR THE FULL LIST

A call was made to only run classes that had more than eight cars so there would be a decent amount of racing tomorrow. That resulted in a total of three NMCA and two NMRA classes. The three classes are Pro Street, Nostalgia Pro Street, and Xtreme Street.

In an odd one, Blaisdell in his white Corvette would take on Coughlin. Concluding the burn out and backing up, Blaisdell immediately double-bulbs Coughlin and goes right up on the trans-brake. Meanwhile, Coughlin's crew is adjusting the wheelie bars.

Coughlin then stages on the first staging beam, when Blaisdell immediately jumps on the trans-brake again, Coughlin comes in and the race is on. Coughlin crosses the stripe first, and shortly after Blaisdell does, trailing smoke. About 1400 feet the Camaro has a heavy trail of smoke and pitches left. It looks like the Camaro stopped before the wall. The cause is strongly believed to be the boiling transmission fluid from being on the converter too long.
