    Update on Barb Nesbitt

Family members report that Barbara Nesbitt remains in the ICU At Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte with contusions on entire right side of body, a bruised liver, bruised lung, and possibly broken ribs, but the swelling of her body have kept x-rays from being conclusive.
As of now, the worst injury appears to be her elbow, which was shattered in the incident. According to family members orthopedic surgeons are determining if her elbow can be reconstructed.

I spoke to Susie a little bit ago and she said that Barb was resting and they were waiting for doctors to come back.

My heart is heavy over what happened. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. My understanding from Charlie Harmon is that all of the other drivers Tony was racing against refused to run without him and that they will finish eliminations at the next event.

This is a prime example of the class of drivers that race with the NMCA.

Even another reason why we miss it so much.

I just got back from the hospital where I was able to see Barb for a few minutes. The good news is she was awake and asked that I pass along her thanks for all the well-wishes, and in her words, "Tell everyone, I'm just fine."
The bad news is she is in really rough shape.

Do they know any more Scott?

Jeff, I think I'd prefer to leave that answer to someone in the family. There will be a lot more answers tomorrow once a team of specialists gets a chance to look at her elbow/arm, which is in really, really bad shape.

I'm sure Susan will post an update at some point tomorrow. I'm outta here on an 8:15 flight in the morning and don't get back to CA until after 1 Pacific Time, so my communication with the family willl be limited until tomorrow afternoon.

We are still at the Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, So far they have stabilized her. She was roughed up pretty bad and she is getting thru the pain. She has several broken ribs, a broken index finger on the left hand, bruises and cuts from her collar bone to her knee, briused lung, laceration on her liver and her right arm/elbow is crushed. Right now we have meet with several doctors. She has had one surgery already to clean things up and get the loose bone fragments out. the surgeons are amazed said that they have never seen such an extensive elbow injury and she is still able to move her hand and fingers.

Even in this horrible tragedy I am still grateful as this could have been so much worse. The impact to Mom's elbow happened when she was pulling the chutes. Had her arm not been protecting her head/neck who knows what could have happened.

There are so many people that I want to say thank you but I know that I will forget so many. The NMCA/NMRA staff you guess are second to none. Zmax Dragway has gone above and beyond everything that I could have expected. My friends... I mean my family that we race with, you are all truley amazing people. I am so greatful to have you be a part of my life. All of the visits, calls, emails, texts, posts.... the support that you are giving my family and I is what is helping us get thru this. It is going to be a long recovery but if anyone can do it... Mom can.
